Hello
Quote #1: “I think I’ve found something, The Jewish National Fund is looking for an office worker.” Mrs. Ryder said. Pg. 83, Paragraph 1
I think that it is good that Elli is looking for a job after she came to
I have always wanted a job just to raise money. I wish that 14 year olds could get a job and I would work hard for some money.
Why is she asking Mrs. Ryder to help her with her job search?
Quote #2: “I barely managed 50 before I started developing an acute pain in my back,”
Elli confessed. Pg. 79, Paragraph 4
I think that Elli made the right decision in confessing to her mom that her back hurt. Back injuries are the worst of all and I wouldn’t want it to happen to her at such a young age. I am very glad that she made the decision to choose a different job.
My Grandpa has had back problems for a few years now and is miserable. It is very bothersome and has made him stop playing golf, his favorite sport. I wouldn’t want Elli to stop her life over a back problem at such a young age.
Why was her back hurting at such a young age?

Quote #1: I think it's good too that she's starting a new job. It shows that she is hard working. Making money will help her start her life and settle down in America.
Question #1: Elli asked Mrs. Ryder because she is with the HIAS and helps new immigrants find jobs so they can start living their life.
Quote #2: I'm also glad she switched jobs but not just because of her back pain. The guy that owned the warehouse could've hurt her, Elli was smart to run away. I guess the back pain was important too because her and her mom have all those medical issues so that could've been bad if she started having more.
Question #2: Elli's back might've been hurting because she was sore and wasn't that strong, or it could have been more serious.
Quote #1-
In my opinion, Elli is showing a lot of effort and how much she wants to become more of an American and pick up the culture and working life. I think that this is good for her, getting the new job, because it helps her in many ways, like making money, and keeping herself in check.
Question #1-
Mrs. Ryder works with HIAS and she is the one that supports immigrants, and helps them find a living to start their new life in America.
Quote #2
I am very happy for Elli, because she got ran away from that horrible job where she had to fold those five hundred sheets of paper. I am also happy for her because now she doesn't have to worry about her back hurting.
Question #2-

Yeah I think that it's super good that Elli doing whatever it takes to get a job in America to make money, it's a good start.
I think that Elli asked Mrs. Ryder because Mrs. Ryder is like Ellis American mentor helper person form HIAS. HIAS helps new immigrant settle in America and Mrs Ryder just works there.
Yeah it's good that she switched jobs, the guy at her old job was all creepy and when she described where the job was it was like in a warehouse in the middle of no where, it was all creepy. It's good that she found a new job or else she could have gone to the hospital like her mom.
I think that one of the reasons why her back was hurting at such a young age is because of the work she had to do at the concentration camps during the Holocaust.
